Watch: Akash Deep Sends England Star’s Stumps Cartwheeling, But Batter Remains Not-Out

Debutant India pacer Akash Deep sent England star Zak Crawley’s stumps cartwheeling. But, the batter remained not-out due to a no-ball.

On the opening day of the 4th Test in Ranchi on Friday, England batters’ stumps were sent reeling by debutant bowler Akash Deep, who was playing in his first Test match. Crawley was taken aback by Akash’s exquisite delivery, but the Indian bowler misjudged and broke the stumps instead of overstepping, keeping the batter alive. Although Crawley’s stumps appeared to be flying, Akash was pleased to discover that he had delivered a no-ball. So the festivities were shortened.

However, that was just the beginning for Akash Deep, who in the same over sent Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett packing. A few overs later, Deep atoned for his error by dismissing Crawley in a similar fashion, except this time he hit the top of the stumps, sending the bails flying

Following the team management’s decision to rest Jasprit Bumrah because of a “workload issue,” Akash Deep made his debut for India. Bumrah, who has taken the most wickets for India in the series, did not play, which allowed the gifted Akash to get his first Test cap.

Regarding the game, Ben Stokes, the captain of England, chose to bat first against the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team after winning the toss. While Rohit acknowledged that he would have preferred to bat first on the pitch, Akash showed that having the ability to bowl first wasn’t inherently a bad thing.
